Generate Test URLs
Test URLs can't be generated for campaigns that have ended.
Before you go live with your Reddit campaign, we recommend seeing your ad in action and confirming that tracking is working. With a test URL, you can:
- Ensure your creative is optimized for all devices
- Preview your ad in a brand-safe community or conversation
- Test conversion tracking on your ad to make sure it's properly connected
Generate test URLs
- Find the entity to create test URLs for. For example, you can find the campaign to create test URLs for all ads in that campaign.
- Hover over the entity and select ⋮ More options > Test and Preview.
- (Optional) Select the community for feed placement. This is set to r/aww by default. You can change this at any time to change the community to preview in.
Don't see the community you're looking for? You can test it in a specific community or feed later.
- Your test URLs will start generating. This process may take several minutes. We recommend closing this panel and coming back later.
- When ready, you'll see
Test
in the feed and conversation columns. Selecting this link will open the test URL.
These URLs can be visited at any time until the listed expiration date, either 30 days after test creation or when your campaign ends, whichever is sooner.
You can also export all your URLs with Download Link CSV.
These URLs won't be accessible past their expiration date. To extend access, you can either update your campaign or ad group's end date or regenerate a new URL after expiration.
Recommended tests
We recommend using these URLs to test the following cases:
Mobile compatibility
Copy the URL and send it to your mobile device to open it on the official Reddit iOS or Android mobile app.
Conversion tracking
Go to the landing page from your ad and perform a conversion event. After at most 24 hours, you'll see a new conversion for this ad in the Ads Manager.
A conversion event can only be recorded if you've installed the Conversion API or Reddit Pixel.
Click ID persistence
Open the destination URL to see your click ID, passed as a value for rdt_cid
in the URL. Don’t see a value? Set up third-party measurement. Learn more about click IDs.
(Optional) Community preview
Didn't see the community you'd like to test? Open the feed test link and copy everything after the community name (it should look like ?ad={{Your ad ID}}
). Go to the community you'd like to test in and paste the contents at the end of the URL.
Example: Card preview
- Original URL:
https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/?ad=AdABC123
- New URL:
https://www.reddit.com/r/JapaneseFood/?ad=AdABC123
(Optional) Comment preview
Want to see your ad in action in a different thread? Open the conversation test link and copy everything after the post name (it should look like ?comments_ad={{Your ad ID}}
). Go to the post you'd like to test in and paste the contents at the end of the URL.
Example: Conversation preview
- Original URL:
https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/awyf90/husband_said_he_was_going_to_make_a_bed_frame_i/?comments_ad=AdABC123
- New URL:
https://www.reddit.com/r/JapaneseFood/comments/1j9lefn/one_of_the_best_ramen_ive_tried_in_japan_mutekiya/?comments_ad=AdABC123
Things to know
- Test URLs behave like real ads, meaning impressions, clicks, and charges still apply whether they're active or not.
- Anyone with the URL can open and interact with the ad.
- URLs expire after 30 days or when your campaign ends, whichever is sooner.
- Test URLs can't be generated for campaigns that have ended. If you need to create a test URL, we recommend moving your schedule's end date.
