Video Goals

Video goals let you measure and optimize based on how long a user watches your video. A view is counted when at least half the video is visible on-screen and a redditor does at least one of the following:

  • Watches continuously for at least your goal duration.
  • Watches at least 95% of the video.
  • Unmutes or expands the video to full screen.

Choosing a goal is a great way to segment ad groups by business objective. You can set a different goal for each ad group, even within the same campaign.

Choose a video goal

  1. Create a video view objective campaign or an ad group in an existing video view objective campaign.
  2. On the ad group page, under Set up delivery > Bidding & optimization, choose your optimization goal.

    This can’t be changed later.

  3. Finish setting up your ad group and ad.

Reporting

Ad groups in video campaigns have video goal metrics available in the Ad Groups tab on the dashboard. Ad groups without a video goal or that aren’t part of a video view objective campaign won’t have any data for these metrics.

Video goal metrics

  • 6-second video views
  • 15-second video views
  • Cost per 6-second view
  • Cost per 15-second view
  • 6-second view-through rate
  • 15-second view-through rate

Things to know

  • Video goals are required for all ad groups in video view campaigns.
  • Once saved, a video goal can’t be changed—you’ll need to rebuild the ad group to update it.
  • You can set video goals with bulk import.
  • Video goals only apply to feed placements.
