Targeting Guidelines Policy

General Rules and Prohibitions

There are some high level and general rules for targeting on Reddit:

  • These targeting rules apply to both positive targeting (i.e. including attributes) and negative targeting (i.e. excluding attributes).
  • Advertisers are not allowed to use Reddit's tools to discriminate.
  • Advertisers may not advertise products or services in a location where those products and services are illegal.

Targeting based on sensitive categories

Reddit prohibits targeting users based on the following sensitive categories: 

  • Gender identities other than cisgender
  • Genetic, biometric, or health data
  • Immigration status
  • Physical and mental health
  • Political beliefs
  • Race or ethnic origin
  • Religious or philosophical beliefs
  • Sex life or sexual orientation
  • Trade union membership
  • Users under the age of 18
  • Veteran status

If you are advertising in housing, financial, or employment verticals, you are ineligible to use certain Reddit targeting tools.

You may not target communities in the following categories under any circumstance: 

  • Addiction Support
  • Mature Themes and Adult Content 
  • Medical & Mental Health
  • Trauma Support
