AMA Ads (Beta)

Engage with your audience by promoting your AMA (Ask Me Anything). Redditors who tap the Remind Me call to action (CTA) for your ad will receive alerts for your AMA. Your ad's CTA will automatically adapt for each stage—helping redditors set reminders, join the live event, and revisit top questions and answers afterward.

Key features

  • Seamless creation: Transform your organic AMA post into an ad with a dynamic CTA.
  • Enhanced user engagement: The dynamic CTA ensures redditors can take action at the right time, improving engagement throughout your campaign. Redditors who subscribe to receive alerts from your CTA will get a push notification when your event goes live.
  • Increased campaign longevity: After your AMA is done, create a separate post-AMA ad to let redditors quickly revisit your campaign and see the questions that were asked and answered.

Before you start

We strongly recommend familiarizing yourself with AMAs. Learn what they're about and see our tips for hosting one.

1. Create an organic AMA

Since the creative for your AMA ads is based on your post, we strongly recommend taking time during post-creation to polish your headline and body.

  • You can edit your body before ad creation, but your title is locked once posted and can't be changed.
  • Your first image will be used as the thumbnail and can't be cropped or adjusted during ad creation. Any aspect ratio is accepted, but we recommend following our image ad specs for the best results.
  1. Head to Reddit and tap Create. Select create
  2. Choose how you'd like to host your AMA:
    • Community: Promote your brand to an organic subreddit, whether owned and managed by your brand or just one relevant to your content. You can also set up an additional organic ad headline for this AMA type. This is recommended if you have a specific subreddit you'd like to target, or want to increase the chances of organic participation and visibility ads.

Some subreddits may not allow AMAs. Check their community rules for more details.

    • Profile: Host your AMA in a brand-controlled personal space. This is great if you want to engage a specific audience with a guaranteed reach or want to maintain control over the conversation.
  3. Set up your post:
    • Title: Provide a title in 300 characters or less. We recommend using first-person voice and framing from the host's point of view. Learn more about our suggestions and best practices.
    • Body: Give details about your AMA to align the conversation and include external links and images as you see fit. We recommend providing a proof photo so redditors know who you are, which can boost participation.
    • Scheduling: Set the event date and start time based on your local time zone.
  4. When ready, select Post. Select Post
  5. (Optional) Go to your AMA's post, select ⋯ > Add co-hosts, and assign collaborators. Add co-hosts
  6. Contact the subreddit's moderators to prove your identity if you're doing a community AMA. We recommend providing a link to your AMA's confirmation social post or a proof photo.

2. Set up your ad

  1. Set up a brand awareness and reach or a traffic campaign. We recommend choosing the objective that best matches your goals.
  2. Go to the dashboard and open the Ads tab.
  3. Select Create Ad and choose an ad group in your brand awareness and reach or traffic campaign.
  4. Give your ad a name. This will only be used in dashboard and reporting and won't be visible to redditors.
  5. Choose your AMA post. This will automatically set up your headline and body. A thumbnail will automatically be generated based on your first image if you provide an image in the post.
    1. In Creative, open Choose Post.
    2. Toggle Organic in the dropdown.
    3. Select your AMA and select Use Post to update your creative. Use post
  6. Provide another customizable headline if you're setting up a community AMA. This can't be set up for profile AMAs.
  7. (Optional) Set up tracking.
  8. Look at your ad's preview. If everything looks good, select Save to launch your ad. Select post

Engaged clicks reporting metric

The Engaged Clicks metric measures the number of redditors who tapped Remind Me and set up a reminder. Since it's based on ad RSVPs and won't decrease if someone cancels their RSVP, this number may differ from the total RSVP count.

Learn how to view this metric in reporting.

Things to know

  • Only brand awareness and reach or traffic campaigns are supported.
  • The creatives for your ad—like headline, body, and thumbnail—are based on your post. You can set up an additional headline for community AMAs, but profile AMAs won't have any customization. We strongly recommend taking time to perfect your post before creating your ad.
  • RSVP count will show during the pre-AMA phase only if 11 or more users have registered.
  • Custom CTAs or destination URLs aren't supported.
  • Clicking the ad will drive users to your AMA post.
  • Your ad will change depending on your AMA's phase. Here's what to expect:
PhaseFeaturesExample
Pre-AMA
  • Status: “Coming Up” with the date and time of the event.
  • CTA: “Remind Me” for redditors to get an alert when your AMA starts.
  • RSVP count: If 11 or more users have signed up to receive alerts for your AMA, the current count will display.

Recommendations

Drive more traffic by sharing the word

Try crossposting in other communities to gain more exposure for your AMA and help redditors find the source of your content. For example, if your AMA is about ramen, crosspost it in subreddits like r/ramen or r/JapaneseFood.

You must be a member of that community to crosspost, and not all communities allow crossposting.

You can also share your post on social media, promote it with influencers and publications, or engage with redditors in the subreddit you plan to host your AMA.

Drive more awareness with an effective headline

We strongly recommend choosing a headline based on your AMA's phase. Learn more about our recommendations for headlines.

Profile AMA

PhaseRecommendationExample
Pre-AMAChoose a post title that specifies who you are, the topic, and when your AMA will happen. We recommend keeping CTAs general since this will be used as a headline during all phases of your AMA.
Hi Reddit, I'm {{AMA Host name}} and I'm here to chat about {{Topics}} with {{Brand}} live at {{Date and time}}. Ask me anything!
During AMAThis headline will be the same as your pre-AMA one.
Hi Reddit, I'm {{AMA Host name}} and I'm here to chat about {{Topics}} with {{Brand}} live at {{Date and time}}. Ask me anything!
Post AMAWe strongly recommend creating a separate ad linking to your AMA for those who couldn't attend. This post could include a quick recap and a CTA to encourage users to check out the AMA.

Community AMA

PhaseRecommendationExample
Pre-AMAAddress the community and let them know who you are and what you plan on covering. We recommend choosing hosts and topics that are relevant to the community.
Hey r/{{Community}}! {{AMA host name}} here to talk all things {{topics}} with the help of {{Brand}} live at {{Date and time}}. I look forward to chatting with you all then.
During AMAInvite active community users to join the conversation in your AMA, which is happening now.
Got some time? Join our live AMA with {{Host}} happening now on r/{{Community}}.
Post-AMAWe strongly recommend creating a separate post-AMA ad after your AMA ends for the best results.

Add a link to your site or product you're highlighting

Since this ad type doesn't support destination URLs, remember to add any links of interest to your post's body.
